Scottish Highlands & Ben Nevis (via Seikluskliinik)

A hike that takes you through the wildest regions of Scotland and Europe. Our journey runs northwest from Fort William and lasts 6 beautiful, wild and unmarked days until we reach the village of Shiel Bridge. If blessed by the weather gods, we shall summit Ben Nevis all together at the end.

TRIP OUTLINE

Day 1. A train journey from Edinburgh to Fort William.

Day 2-7. Our 6-day hike starts like all the best adventures do – with a ferry ride across the loch! We cross Loch Linnhe and start heading west from there. Since it is not an officially marked hiking trail, we use everything that nature offers us for hiking - old trails next to streams, between mountains, and on heaths. If there is no track, we will make it ourselves! In the course of six hiking days, we walk through forests, descend through valleys, cross mountain passes and several rivers.

In the first days of the hike, we will probably meet other hikers, but as time goes on, the more we move away from civilization, into the mountains. By the evening of the sixth day, we reach the village of Shiel Bridge. Here we set up our tents in a nice campsite where we can wash off the fatigue of the hike.

Day 8. We leave the campsite in the morning and take a bus to Fort William. The scenery on the way is breathtaking, so don’t plan on getting a nap yet. A day for relaxing, scrubbing ourselves clean, getting to know the famous Highland town, and visiting pubs.

Day 9. Early morning wake-up for everyone who wants an extra challenge. Weather allowing, we head out around 6 am to summit the highest mountain in the United Kingdom and Great Britain, Ben Nevis (1345 m). Later in the day, we take a bus or a train back to Edinburgh.

Day 10. The journey home starts.
